Welcome to the digital photobook of our holiday to Luxembourg from the 13th to the 31st of July. You can find a compilation of our nicest pictures and a small description of our holiday. When you click on the photos they will open in a new screen at a bigger format.

In a short time there will be a special and new site online with loads of information of the cities and villages of Luxembourg!

The place where we made up our camp: Echternach

We stayed in Echternach during the holiday's. This lies in the east of Luxembourg near the beginning of Germany. Echternach (Luxembuorg) is separated of Germany by the river the Sūre. Echternach has 5100 inhabitants and lies at a height of 165 meters above sea level. Echternach is well known for its beautifull and big basilisk. This basilisk is funded by the holy St. Willebrord in the 7th century afther Christ. Echternach also has watersport facilities, a big lake, a beatifull car-free promenade on which you can walk at the side of the Sūre, a car-free shopping street, a beautifull market square with a couple of cafés and an indoor swimming pool.

At Echternach loads of paths that go into the Müllerthal start. Echternach also has a nice environment for bicycling. You can go anywhere in Luxembourg when you are staying at Echternach, you can go to Ettelbrück, Luxembourg City, Wasserbillig / Grevenmacher and some other cities and villages easily. You can also travel to an other place by bus and go anywhere else from there.

The Müllerthal lies at the eastern side of Luxembourg to the German border. This area consists out of sandstonerocks that were grinded out by small rivers. The Müllerthal is also calles "Little Switserland" becuase of its high rock walls. The route Grundhof - Berdorf (about 6 kilometers) is one of the most beautifull routes. You can find the Amphitheater and the millstonecaves between Berdorf and Echternach. A picture of this can be found underneath.

Monday, July 21st 2003 - Vianden, Diekirch and Ettelbruck

Vianden, Diekirch and Ettelbruck can all be found in the Ardennes of Luxembourg. Vianden has 1600 inhabitants and lies at 210 meters above sea level. The castle and the central station of the cable car can be found at 510 meters above sea level and you have a beautifull view over the rest of the surroundings here. What's special about Vianden is that it lies by the water reservoirs and the lock gate of the river of SEO. A small walk from the mountain station of the cable car gives you a magnificent view to this lock gate. The castle was once in hands of the Oranjes of Nassau of Holland and is now restaurated. It's the most beautifull castle of the area of the Ardennes and the Eifel.

Wednesday, July 23rd 2003 - Luxembourg-city

Luxembourg-city has 80.0000 inhabitants and because of this it's smaller than an average city in Holland. Luxembourg city is placed on some plateau's (408 meters above sealevel) that are connected with each other by some beautifull and enormous bridges. There's also a city at the bottom of Luxembourg city that lies at 230 meters above sea level. This is really worth visiting too.

A walk through Luxembourg city is certainly worth doing. The station is only three minutes away (by foot) from the shopping area where you can find long streets and some smaller ones only filled with shops. Not far from this is the palace of the duke of Luxembourg, the casermattes and the beautifull overview to the bottom city.

The mighty Moselvally and the romantic valley of the Sūre come together here. At the place where the Sūre is flooding over in the Mosel (the most eastern side of Luxembourg) is a big mosaik panel that shows the land of the duke with its waterways.

Grevenmacher is an important wine centre and it also has place for shops and working areas. There's also a car-free centre with narrow streets, ruins of medieval castles and wine cellars of famous wines such as "Caves Bernard-Massard". When you walk to the Mosel in the direction of the city Mertert you walk under a bridge that connects Grevenmacher with Germany. Here you can see the lock gates of the river the Mosel in Grevenmacher.
